Overview

To walk El Moez Street is to command the greatest open-air museum of Islamic architecture on Earth. This guided walking tour takes you into the heart of medieval Cairo — the capital built by the Fatimid caliphs and embellished by the Mamluk sultans. Standing beneath the colossal stone archways of Bab al-Futuh and Bab al-Nasr, then stepping along the legendary Al-Muizz Street, you’ll pass centuries of untouched palaces, mosques and mausoleums: the Al-Hakim Mosque, the Al-Aqmar Mosque and the magnificent Qalawun Complex. Climb the southern gate of Bab Zuweila for a commanding view, then continue through the vibrant Khan el-Khalili bazaar and the Tentmakers’ Street, watching artisans ply centuries-old crafts. Please dress modestly, as you’ll be visiting active places of worship.
