It is the first question almost everyone asks before booking a trip to Egypt. Here is the honest, practical answer — without the brochure speak.
We are Sam and Mo — two licensed Egyptologist guides with over 28 years of combined experience. We host guests in Egypt every week, and we can tell you plainly what to expect.
Yes. The area that tourists actually visit — Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, the Nile between them and the Red Sea resorts — is heavily secured and visited by millions of travellers each year. Tourist police are present at every major site, and the infrastructure that moves visitors around is mature and reliable.
Most governments advise extra caution in North and Middle Sinai and parts of the remote Western Desert near the Libyan border. None of those areas feature on a normal Egypt itinerary. The tourist corridor itself is far from them.
The main friction is not danger — it is persistent vendors and souvenir-sellers, especially at the big monuments. A smile and a firm “la, shukran” (no, thank you) handles almost all of it. It is a minor annoyance, not a threat.
Yes, with the same common sense you would use anywhere. Many solo travellers visit Egypt and love it. A private guide makes a real difference — see our solo travel in Egypt guide.
Very. Our private tours are flexible and guides are wonderful with children. See Egypt for families.
Yes. Domestic flights (Cairo–Luxor–Aswan) are simple and quick, and the tourist road links are well-used. For Luxor–Aswan, the Nile cruise is the safest and most comfortable option of all.
Travel with a reputable local operator, keep to the tourist routes, apply normal city sense — and Egypt will feel not just safe but extraordinarily welcoming.
